NHS is committed to the development of safe and healthy housing in communities that serve the needs of its working population. Since its inception in 1970, NHS has fostered very strong relationships with local officials, state agencies, community leaders, residents, lenders, and investors to facilitate development. These relationships are vital to the success of both NHS and its properties.

NHS’ reputation and track record in the affordable housing arena has earned us numerous state and federal awards. To date, NHS has created and preserved housing in many southern MA municipalities.

The NHS Development team creates and preserves quality housing through its experience and expertise in:

At NHS, we believe it is important to create housing that fits the needs of the community and the population it serves. This perspective and approach is a critical part of the successful redevelopment and revitalization of neighborhoods and downtowns in our geographical area.

Given our commitment to long-term ownership, NHS also recognizes the need to build homes that will be financially and physically stable well into the future. The team has a combined 60 years of development experience, including expertise in the use of public resources to create housing and structure financially complex transactions. In particular, NHS specializes in the use of the Low-Income Housing Tax Credit, as well as the Historic Tax Credit, to create the equity necessary to capitalize a project.

Notable NHS Development Accomplishments

  • In 2021, NHS completed the construction of Sycamore on Main, 48 affordable and workforce apartments in Brockton. The property will serve as a catalyst for more development in the downtown. Commercial space on the 1st floor will be home to the Brockton Beer Company.   
  • In 2020, NHS finished construction of the first completely deaf-friendly group home for adults with disabilities in Quincy’s Germantown neighborhood.
  • In partnership with WinnDevelopment, NHS completed the construction of The Watson in 2018. The Quincy property consists of 140 mixed-income apartment homes, 80% of which serve the needs of households priced out of the market.
  • Constructed 32 new efficiency and one-bedroom apartments for formerly homeless veterans in in southern MA.
  • Successfully recapitalized two existing multifamily properties in Wareham and Taunton to fund much-needed renovations and preserve their long-term affordability.
  • Created 10 apartment homes for formerly homeless families in partnership with the City of Quincy.
  • Constructed 9 transitional housing units in partnership with DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended.)
  • Created 61 affordable housing units with Father Bill’s & MainSpring  for formerly homeless individuals.
  • Completed construction of 11 affordable   apartments in partnership with Habitat for Humanity.
